Ping is a chartered accountant qualified with a Big 4 accounting firm in the UK. He is a tax professional, having engaged in Hong Kong tax and international tax planning for close to 30 years. Apart from his professional work, Ping also plays an active role in community affairs.

Ping had been members of the District Council and the former Regional Council. He still serves on various Boards and Committees such as the Hospital Authority's Regional Advisory Committee of the New Territories, Hospital Governing Committee of Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and the Human Organs Transplant Board. Ping was awarded a Badge of Honour by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 1994 for service to the community. Ping was also appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000.
